Floating bubble

The Kartell FL/Y, with its transparent lampshade, looks a bit like a floating soap bubble cut in half. Imperfect sphere

FL/Y is a creation of Ferruccio Laviani, the Italian designer who has developed a number of iconic lights in the past. As always, he has devoted a great deal of attention to the design of this pendant lamp. The lampshade is not a perfect hemisphere: it is cut a few centimetres below the diameter, so that it can capture the maximum amount of light. The special transparency of the lampshade creates a light effect that makes it look even more like a soap bubble. The colour of the light that is dispersed depends on the colour of the lampshade: with an orange lampshade, you get a warm orange glow.
