Flos was established in 1962 by Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina. This is embedded in their clear vision: Italy would become the cradle of interior design. The collaboration with esteemed designers such as Castiglioni brothers and Tobia Scarpa made Flos a producer of successful designs right from the beginning. An example is the Flos Arco, the lamp that replaced the classic chandelier above the dining table.
In the meantime, Flos has become a renowned designer label that works with well-known designers and new talent. We felicitated Flos with several design awards and their designs are exhibited in museums throughout the world.
The brand produces innovative lighting without forgetting the past. The designers often go for the ultimate combination of cutting-edge design and nostalgic elements, such as the traditional bedside lamp from the old days. The result is a timeless and perfect design that withstands the vagaries of fashion.
Right from the beginning, thorough research was carried out to investigate new materials and technologies. This combined with the rise of the designer label led to the discovery of the Cocoon technique. This technique consists of wrapping a metal frame with a kind of resin. The Flos Gatto and Flos Fantasma are wonderful examples of this fascinating process.
Today, Flos is also one of the leaders in research on LED and OLED technology. In designing their lighting, environmentally responsible products are key.
