Samuel Ruben, an intelligent scientist and Philip Rogers Mallory, a determined producer of tungsten filament wire are responsible for the birth of the company. The AAA battery was invented in the fifties by Samuel Ruben. They derived from the need for smaller and more durable alkaline manganese batteries to serve in the Eastman Kodak cameras. The batteries were then produced by Mallory. The success of the AAA batteries in photography put the company on the map. This ultimately led to the foundation of the Duracell brand as we know it in the year 1964.
